Optical Illusion - The Offering
“The Offering”, like it's predecosors, will further solidify Optical illusion's position as one of the most prolific collection of MCs in the country keeping fans happy and wining a legion of new followers in the process. The typical hard hitting beats and unapologetic lyrics that have place the group where it is now are very evident in this album but there is a definite growth in subject matter and delivery from the 4 MCs. Besides BattleKat, a couple of other producers put their magic touch on the album.
The first single Heat Wave was produced by PTA based Nyambz (Microphone sweet home – ProVerb) and other beat makers like Stethascope (ProVerb – I have a dream) Delani and even the legendary Jazz great Pops Mohammed spiced up a track with his eclectic sounds. They also featured the vocals of renowned poet Lebogang Mashile and Kethi who features on Pebbles' debut album Playful Soul.
There is no question that these young MCs have grown in the two years since their last release and “The Offering” is testimony to this, whether you're young or you're old, rich or poor, from lokshin or from the ‘burbs, the offering is an album that will pull in to the soul of hip-hop and make you never want to leave.
Albums:
The groups first release came in 2000 with the release of a tape titled “Thoughts Illustrated”. This release featured artist such as Jerah (who now works with Soul Candy), Flabbergast of Skwatta Kamp and Mad Scientist. This album was sold on the street by the group members and it had well received reviews from different magazine publications.
The second album released was “definitive”. This was the first official release from the group because this was the first album that the group had in music stores country wide. The album was a great success and it was one of the best selling Hip Hop albums in the Period of December 2003 at CD Warehouse in Rosebank Johannesburg. Although the success of the album was short lived because of distribution problems with the albums distributor, it none the less had an impressionable impact on the media and fans that bought or heard the album.
