THE S.A. HIP-HOP HERITAGE SERIES

RHYMZIWROTE BY SPEX - NOW AVAILABLE - CLICK HERE TO BUY

RhymzIwrote is released digitally from October 26th 2007.

South African Hip-Hop has come a long way since the days of Prophets Of the City and Black Noise. These two groups were amongst the first groups to release hip-hop albums in South Africa in the early 1990's.  The hip-hop industry has since produced Gold-selling albums and has earned nominations in international awards.

THE S.A. HIP-HOP HERITAGE SERIES is a new initiative being launched by Serius Entertainment. It will be a series of albums and DVD's showcasing the best of South African Hip-Hop in its yesteryears. This initiative will not focus on the music only. Other elements like breaking, graffiti/artwork, djing, entrepreneurship, etc will be given a spotlight as well as they also contributed to laying the foundation for the industry we see today. With this series, Serius Entertainment aims to CONSERVE and CELEBRATE South African Hip-Hop Heritage.

In launching this series South African Hip-Hop's first album performed by a solo artist, rhymzIwrote by Spex, is being re-issued. This album has been off the market since 2001. That was two years after its release. This was due to the shutting down of its distribution company, Tic Tic Bang. The album was licensed to Eargasm Entertainment at the time and now the distribution rights to the album have since come back into the ownership of Uthoht Production Enterprises which is now trading as Serius Entertainment.

WOODSTOCK 9 -- Battle Vir Woodstock

Battle Vir Woodstock

Battle Vir Woodstock is probably the only band battle in the country that does not judge a band on its musical ability, but strictly on its professionalism. Now in its third year, Battle Vir Woodstock has grown to become one of the most impressive, most respected, most fun, most sought after competitions on the live music scene.

This year, more than 13 Battles will rage across the country, with a minimum of five bands per show.  This means that around 65 bands will be given a platform to showcase their art in the hopes of walking away with the main prize of a headline slot at Woodstock and R10,000 in cash.

This year's Battle has a slightly different quirk in that the finals will be held at the Woodstock festival itself on Friday 30th of November on Stage Two. The winning Battle band will then have the opportunity to perform again the following night on Stage One.

The 9th Woodstock music and lifestyle festival

Woodstock 9 will take place in its new home in the Maluti - A - Phofung Municipal area, in the Eastern Free State town of Harrismith   -  almost equal distance from Johannesburg , Bloemfontein and Durban .

Woodstock 's promoters are particularly excited about the move to the mountains this year. 'We are putting the adventure back into Woodstock', says festival owner Simon Fourie.

The new venue, President Brand Park, is just on the outskirts of the town, which means that all the creature comforts that Woodstock fans are used to will be available, such as green grass, tar roads, cell phone signal, ATMs (on site and in the town), local guest houses and B&Bs, and, most of all, an abundance of nearby shops and take-away food outlets.

A full list of local hotels and guest houses is listed on www.woodstock.co.za .
